Our Energy Crisis

It's time for action!

Our country is in the midst of an energy crisis that is the result of decades of inaction on the part of our leaders in Washington. For too long, Congress has cared more about partisan politics than about finding solutions to our nation's challenges, and now we see the results around us. Families and small businesses all across the district bear the brunt of this failure every time they refill their tanks.

It’s time for bold action to reduce gas prices in the short term and move us away from our dependence on foreign oil in the long term. In Congress, I’ll work across party lines to fight for a comprehensive energy plan:

  • Close regulatory loopholes that have allowed rampant speculation in the energy futures market and artificially driven up oil prices.
  • Support PAYGO rules and require balanced budgets to slash the federal deficit and strengthen the dollar, making energy imports less expensive.
  • Expand domestic oil production, starting with the 68 million acres of leased lands that oil companies have not yet developed.
  • Aggressively promote the development of alternative energy sources through tax incentives, block grants, and funding for green-collar job training.
  • Improve energy efficiency standards for automobiles and public buildings.
